Legendary skier Lindsey Vonn crashed in the women’s downhill event at the Winter Olympic Games.

Vonn, competing for the US, crashed early in her run on the Olimpia delle Tofane course in Cortina, and was taken away in a helicopter.

The American had ruptured ligaments in her knee nine days prior, and was taking a big risk by featuring at the event.

After the incident, six-time tennis Grand Slam champion Iga Swiatek took to social media to send a message to Vonn.

Iga Swiatek’s message to Lindsey Vonn on Instagram

In a post on her Instagram story, Swiatek said: “My thoughts are with you @lindseyvonn.”

The Pole’s words come over a week since she bowed out of the Australian Open in the quarterfinal stage.

Swiatek won four matches at Melbourne Park, but was ultimately knocked out by eventual champion Elena Rybakina.

Rybakina beat her in straight sets, 7-5, 6-1, before going on to defeat Jessica Pegula and Aryna Sabalenka to hoist a second Grand Slam trophy.

Iga Swiatek’s next tournament appearance on the WTA Tour

Following her Australian Open campaign, Swiatek will now feature in the first WTA 1000 event of the season, the Qatar Open.

Swiatek is seeded first in Doha, and is joined by several other top stars in the draw, including Rybakina, Amanda Anisimova, and Coco Gauff.

Anisimova is the defending champion at the Qatar Open, having won the tournament for the first time last year.

World number one Aryna Sabalenka was set to play at the event, but withdrew.
