Ian Wright has claimed that it ‘doesn’t make sense’ to replace Liverpool forward, Sadio Mane, with someone like in-form Tottenham star, Heung-Min Son, as he told Premier League Productions (16/04/22 at 11:50 am).
The legendary striker was comparing Son with Liverpool’s outstanding forward, with the Spurs star three months younger than Mane.
Nonetheless, whilst Son and Tottenham had an off-day in the Premier League yesterday, it wasn’t the case for Mane, who netted a brace for Liverpool against Man City in the FA Cup semi-final.
Ever since the 30-year-old helped Senegal win the Africa Cup of Nations, he has taken his game to the next level in Liverpool colours.
Nonetheless, when Wright was speaking highly of Son and what he brings to the table for Tottenham, he ended up being compared with Mane of Liverpool.
“Mane is 29, what Son is 29?” said Wright. “If you are going to move Mane on and you are going to bring in another 29-year-old, then it doesn’t make sense.
“You need to get somebody younger. This is where it might be working against Son because of his age now. I think he fits into any top team, with the way he plays and what he is doing.
“He still looks so fit and sharp. Doesn’t get so many injuries. The way he and Harry Kane play, he’s so difficult to mark. As soon as the ball is going anywhere near Kane, he’s already on his way. He’s off.”

Purchased for £22 million in 2015 (Guardian), Son has been an outstanding purchase for Spurs and someone who is now just 13 shy of scoring 100 Premier League goals.
From his 226 league matches, the South Korean has 87 goals and 50 assists – overall in his Tottenham career that equates to 125 goals and 72 assists.
In comparison, someone like Mane, who has a Premier League and Champions League winners medal in his cabinet.
The former Southampton star is already in the Premier League’s 100 club – 108 goals from 257 league matches and 45 assists.
Overall for Mane, he has a staggering 115 goals and 45 assists from 259 Liverpool matches, whereas his record at St Mary’s was 25 from 75 in all competitions.
