Ian Wright has shared that he would ‘feel the same way’ as the Everton fans after they protested against those running the club following their defeat to Aston Villa on Saturday, as he told Premier League Productions (22/01/22 at 2:40 pm).
It was clearly a planned protest by sections of the Goodison Park crowd, who voiced their anger at the board, with a few banners displaying ‘sack the board’ or ‘Kenwright and Co. have to go’.
Last Sunday, Everton sacked Rafa Benitez as head coach after their defeat to Norwich, with Farhad Moshiri ending the ex-Liverpool man’s ill-fated spell on the blue half of Merseyside.
Everton were already in a mess before he arrived, Benitez shouldn’t have been appointed in the first place and he made matters worse during his time at the club.
Wright shared his thoughts on the scenes at Goodison Park yesterday and how he understands the anger and frustration from the Toffee supporters.
“I think Everton fans have got every right to feel despondent with everything that is going on,” said Wright.
“I know they keep waving around the new stadium at Everton fans. But what is the point of that? If you can’t get it right on the pitch when you have so many influential people that have been sacked.
“The owner is spending money, left, right and centre. There is no real direction. He has got a scatter gun vibe about it.
“We aren’t seeing too much from the academy. What is their plan? If I am an Everton fan, then I would feel the same way.”
Hundreds of millions spent, the likes of Carlo Ancelotti and Ronald Koeman have walked the Goodison Park touchline, yet no sign of Everton progressing.
Those very same people at the top that have made mistakes are now being tasked with trying to fix them.
That’s where the problem lies.
Moshiri can spend all the money he wants, but in truth, he isn’t spending it in a wise fashion, nor is there any clarity or sense of idea regarding what he is trying to do.
Even now, the Everton fans have no clue what direction they are heading and that’s the problem at the club.
Therefore, it’s no surprise that the supporters want a clear-out at the top because it’s what is needed for the club to move forward.
