Liverpool have been linked with two of the world’s finest young Spaniards in recent months.
Barcelona duo Gavi and Pedri were both reportedly targets for the Premier League outfit during the summer transfer window.
Speculation about Gavi extended a little longer than his club and country colleague.
But the 18-year-old drew a line under the rumours by signing a new contract at Camp Nou until 2026 back in September.
That new deal includes an £865 million release clause [BBC Sport], meaning that Liverpool – or anyone – will not be signing him anytime soon.

Both Gavi and Pedri starred on Wednesday as La Roja kicked off their World Cup campaign with a 7-0 demolition of Costa Rica in Qatar.
And former Liverpool left-back Jose Enrique has admitted that if he had to choose between one of both starlets for Jurgen Klopp’s outfit, he’d elect for Gavi.
He wrote in Instagram:
Prising either of them from Barca will be an impossible task for any club going forward.
But it is of paramount importance that Liverpool do strengthen their midfield as soon as possible.
January isn’t a good month for business, but Klopp could and should add to his squad – and particularly midfielders.
The likes of Jordan Henderson and Thiago Alcantara are over 30, Fabinho is horribly out of form this season and Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are both horrendously injury prone.
There’s no doubt Liverpool need that position freshened up in a massive way and although it’ll probably be done next summer, they can get to work on it in January.
