West Ham United have been linked with a move for the Brazilian defender.

According to a recent report from Mundo Deportivo, West Ham United are leading the race to sign Barcelona defender Marlon Santos this summer, and the 22-year-old could form a formidable long-term partnership with Hammers youngster Declan Rice.

Marlon spent this season on loan at French side Nice, featuring 27 times in all competitions and helping them to an eighth-placed finish in Ligue 1 but, with a lack of chances at his parent club, it would be no surprise if he moved on permanently over the summer.

West Ham have a new manager in the form of Manuel Pellegrini and, while he has seemingly targeted far more experienced players thus far, he will need to build for the future and lower the overall age of the squad if possible, especially if a few ex-Manchester City stars follow him to the London Stadium.

In Declan Rice, West Ham already have one brilliant young defensive prospect and Marlon could be the long-term partner the academy prospect needs to truly flourish.

Rice has seemingly made a starting spot his own at West Ham and, with Jose Fonte and James Collins gone and doubts remaining over the future of Winston Reid, it could be all change at the back for the Hammers.

Marlon’s ability to play at right-back is another reason why West Ham should bring him to London, but the Brazilian is predominantly a centre-back and next season could see the start of a long-term defensive partnership that leads the Hammers to ultimate success.
