Has Tottenham result once again saved Slaven Bilic from the sack – even if West Ham lose to Crystal Palace at the weekend?

During a season when there has not been a lot to shout about for West Ham United fans, coming back from 2-0 down at half-time to beat rivals Tottenham Hotspur 3-2 in the Carabao Cup would surely have been a major highlight.

First half strikes from Moussa Sissoko and Dele Alli seemingly put Spurs in control, but an Andre Ayew double drew the Hammers level before Angelo Ogbonna scored a late winner.

It was just the result manager Slaven Bilic needed as pressure continued to pile on him following a 3-0 home defeat to newly promoted Brighton and Hove Albion in their last Premier League outing.

A loss to Tottenham followed by a similar result against bottom-placed Crystal Palace at the weekend could well have sealed Bilic’s fate, but has this Wembley Stadium comeback bought him more time regardless of what happens at Selhurst Park on Saturday (October 28)?

The Eagles have lost eight of their nine league outings so far this season and were poor in their own midweek cup clash against Bristol City, losing 4-1, but in the English top flight have improved under boss Roy Hodgson and were unlucky to suffer defeat to Newcastle United last time out and beat champions Chelsea before that.

Palace also have home advantage when West Ham make the trip to South London, something that may also count in Bilic’s favour should they come away from the game with no points.

The Croatian has a knack of producing a result when it really matters and in beating Mauricio Pochettino’s in-form men the 49-year-old may have just gone and done it again.
