West Ham United are closing in on new signings this week.
West Ham United kickstarted a huge summer by replacing David Moyes with Manuel Pellegrini, and big deals could be on the horizon for the Hammers this summer.
Just the one signing has been made so far, with right back Ryan Fredericks arriving on a free transfer from Fulham after letting his contract at Craven Cottage expire.
West Ham are pursuing more signings though, and three deals are being worked on this week in what would be a major transfer flurry for Pellegrini and co.
BBC Sport report that Swansea City goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski is set to join the Hammers, with the 33-year-old making an instant return to the Premier League as West Ham’s No. 1.
Sky Sports note that Issa Diop is in London to complete a medical ahead of his £22million move from Toulouse, whilst Calciomercato report that West Ham hope to seal the signing of Lazio winger Felipe Anderson this week.
Those would be three key additions to Pellegrini’s squad, and would also make it clear where his next area of concern is; central midfield.
West Ham do have Mark Noble, Cheikhou Kouyate and Pedro Obiang, but none of them particularly impressed last season, and Obiang has been injured and targeted by other clubs.
It’s imperative that West Ham boost their options in the middle, whether it’s a free agent signing like Jack Wilshere or Yaya Toure, or even a big-money purchase like Javier Pastore, with extra quality and creativity needed.
A midfielder should be West Ham’s next purchase once their three ongoing deals are done, which may just give Pellegrini the foundations for a strong first season in charge.
