If West Brom appoint Silva will Everton regret a missed opportunity?

West Brom linked with Marco Silva if Alan Pardew is sacked, but with Everton wanting him before will they regret another missed opportunity?

Marco Silva has emerged as the favourite to succeed Alan Pardew as West Bromwich Albion manager should the latter be sacked, reports the Birmingham Mail.

According to the Sun, Pardew has just two games to turn things around or faces the axe, with the Baggies rock bottom of the Premier League currently and seven points from safety.

Mark Hughes, Gary Megson and Harry Redknapp have also been linked with the Hawthorns should the vacancy emerge, but it seems Silva is now the leading candidate.

This would come shortly after the Portuguese was dismissed himself by Watford on January 21, with the Hertfordshire club blaming an approach by Everton on the team’s downturn in form and their boss losing focus.

As the BBC reported at the time, the Toffees wanted to appoint Silva after sacking Ronald Koeman and were prepared to pay £10m in compensation to buy the 40-year-old out of his two-year contract at Vicarage Road.

This was rebuffed by the Hornets and Sam Allardyce was eventually named as Koeman’s successor and has improved results at Goodison Park, but is not a particularly popular figure among the fans.

Which is why some question that with Silva now available and the Merseysiders previously prepared to pay so much to land him, why they have now not made a move for the former Hull City, Olympiakos and Sporting Lisbon coach.

Allardyce’s deal, which runs until 2019, would of course have to be paid off first but then money doesn’t seem like a huge issue under billionaire co-owner Farhad Moshiri and if West Brom do hire him, will the club regret missing a great opportunity to finally land their original first choice to take over from Koeman?
