Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger weeks away from leaving the Gunners after announcing he will resign at the end of the season.

The Frenchman has been subject of a campaign from vocal fans in recent seasons who wanted him out, and they have got their way.

Arsenal’s league position of sixth place suggests Wenger leaving is the right move, and now focus is turning to his earlier achievements with the Gunners.

BBC Sport pundit Garth Crooks said has had his say on Wenger’s exit, and believes Wenger should have been held in higher regard… by Arsenal.

The former Spurs player said: “I have always maintained that if Wenger managed Tottenham, they would have built a statue of him by now – and frankly, I can’t think of a bigger or better compliment.”

In Arsenal’s defence, they may well have long established plans to honour Arsene Wenger moving into the future, yet they felt they should wait for after his stint as manager.

Wenger is hoping to sign off as Arsenal manager by winning the Europa League trophy this season, which would be his first European trophy during his two decade plus long spell as Gunners boss.
