Everton are determined to complete the signing of Theo Walcott this week, but the arrival of the Arsenal winger could have negative consequences for one member of Sam Allardyce’s squad.
Walcott is poised to make the switch to Goodison Park in a £20 million move, as reported by The Guardian, and the move could well reduce Ademola Lookman’s chances of featuring frequently for Everton.
Lookman, who can play on either flank, as a support striker or up front, has been restricted to just seven Premier League appearances for Everton so far this season and could be forgiven for feeling concerned that Walcott’s expected arrival could limit his involvement even further.
However, rather than being disheartened, Lookman should instead use the signing of Walcott as an incentive to try even harder and convince Allardyce that he is worthy of playing more often.
Although he is still rather raw, Lookman – who signed from Charlton Athletic for £11million 12 months ago (BBC) – is an exciting prospect and is capable of making a major impact with his directness and technique.
As Everton seek to guarantee survival in the Premier League they will have to make good use of their squad and Lookman could well have an important part to play at some stage.
The youngster should believe that he can still be a success at Everton and should be more determined than ever to prove his worth.
