If Tottenham sign Tierney, Robertson should be on Celtic’s shortlist

Celtic defender Kieran Tierney has quickly established himself as one of the best players at the club.

Premier League title chasers Tottenham Hotspur are said to be interested in Celtic defender Kieran Tierney after the Daily Reord claimed the north Londoners sent a scout to watch him against Bayern Munich.

Tierney, 20, has surpassed expectation twice over, starring on the left of Brendan Rodgers’ back four and quickly establishing himself as one of the best European talents around.

His form has even saw him captain Scotland in their 1-0 loss to Netherlands last Thursday, despite a number of Scottish players being much older and experienced than the Hoops academy product.

Now, with Tottenham said to be interested in signing the Hoops ace, Rodgers must face the inevitable and come to terms with the fact that if Spurs do table an offer, they may have to allow Tierney to leave.

A shortlist of replacements should be drawn up by Rodgers ahead of the January transfer window, and one of the names on that list should be a Scotland teammate of Tierney’s.

Liverpool defender Andrew Robertson has been handed just three starts with the Merseyside giants since joining Jurgen Klopp’s side from relegated Hull City in the summer.

The Chronicle claim the Glasgow-born 23-year-old, who was a Celtic academy product before being released by the Hoops because he was too small, could be available on loan with Newcastle United offering a potential escape route.

Robertson, a 19-time Scotland international, has failed to commandeer Alberto Moreno’s left-back slot, with the Spaniard seemingly thriving on the competition and taking his game to another level compared to last season.

Liverpool’s number 26 would hit the ground running at Celtic, as he looks to prove the Hoops wrong in releasing him in the first place as well as joining a team full of Scotland teammates.

If Tierney does leave, for whatever price, Celtic’s first-choice replacement must be Liverpool’s Robertson.
