Tottenham have been linked with a move for Borussia Monchengladbach’s Swiss midfielder Denis Zakaria.

Denis Zakaria of Switzerland looks on during the UEFA Euro 2020 qualifier between Switzerland and Republic of Ireland on October 15, 2019 in Geneva, Switzerland.

According to a report from Bild, Tottenham are among four other teams including Premier League rivals Manchester United to have been keeping an eye on Denis Zakaria.

The Swiss international has grown in stature since making the move to Borussia Monchengladbach back in the summer of 2017. Zakaria, despite being just 22 years old, has an incredible amount of experience under his belt having played over 150 senior games for club and country so far in his career.

His consistent performances were bound to attract interest from the bigger European clubs and Tottenham would have a gem if they beat their competitors for his signature in the coming windows. Zakaria would solve multiple problems for Pochettino in defensive midfield and he could also finally fill the void left by Mousa Dembele.

The youngster has a phenomenal footballing brain and his positioning on the pitch is incredible for someone of his age. Zakaria would no doubt be an incredible addition to Tottenham’s midfield but his potential arrival could push another midfielder out of the door.

Eric Dier has had his fair share of criticism over the last two years and the Englishman has failed to improve in that period. Spurs already have Harry Winks, Moussa Sissoko, Tanguy Ndombele, Giovani Lo Celso and even Victor Wanyama potentially higher up the pecking order than Dier which casts a serious shadow over his future.

Tottenham could well move Dier on in January or in the summer if they manage to pull of a deal to sign Zakaria from Monchengladbach. His departure would certainly be a shame considering the hopes that Spurs fans had after his impressive start to life but at the end of the day, it is something they have to live with for their side to reach the next level.
