Tottenham are reportedly interested in signing Koln playmaker Leonardo Bittencourt this summer.
German newspaper Bild have claimed that Koln playmaker Leonardo Bittencourt has an offer on the table from Tottenham Hotspur, after his £7million relegation clause came into effect following the Bundesliga side’s relegation.
Despite being involved in 11 goals during his 27 league and cup outings this season, 24-year-old Bittencourt failed to prevent Koln from suffering relegation. He is now attracting interest from Spurs, as well as Monaco and Hoffenheim.
At such a bargain price, Bittencourt would be a fantastic signing in north London and would provide more than adequate cover for the likes of Dele Alli and Christian Eriksen. But where does that leave Josh Onomah?
The 21-year-old has been inconsistent to say the least during his 2017-18 season-long loan spell at Championship giants Aston Villa this season. However, he is beginning to hit a good run of form, providing two assists in a 4-0 win over Ipswich recently.
Onomah will still be holding out some hope of breaking into the Spurs side in the number 10 role, but he faces the likes of Christian Eriksen and Dele Alli in his path.
The England youth international still has three years remaining on contract at Spurs, which the Daily Star claim is worth £20,000 a week. But with the added presence of Bittencourt – along with Alli and Eriksen – surely Onomah has no chance of forcing his way into Mauricio Pochettino’s plans.
Despite being able to play out wide as well as in his favoured number 10 role, Mauricio Pochettino simply has too much cover – especially since he completed the signing of Lucas Moura from Paris Saint-Germain in January.
The Spurs academy graduate has been played out wide more than in behind the striker at Spurs, and with Bittencourt able to play in both positions it sees Onomah drop even further down the pecking order.
The signing of Bittencourt is only likely to make Onomah’s future at Spurs even more doubtful.
