Tottenham Hotspur may need another new centre-back this summer if Kevin Wimmer’s future is away from North London.
While Tottenham Hotspur appear to be closing in on a deal to sign Juan Foyth from Estudiantes, the latest twist in the tale suggests he may not be the instant replacement for Kevin Wimmer some had believed.
According to the Times, the Argentine club are asking for Foyth to be sent back for an immediate six-month loan deal before any deal is agreed, and if that is the case Tottenham either need to keep the faith with Wimmer or sell him and look for a worthy alternative.

While the Austrian international is tied to a long-term contract with Spurs, Wimmer has made no secret of his desire to leave in pursuit of regular first-team football (as reported by the Mirror) and while Tottenham hold all the cards, it would be no surprise if they did ultimately let him leave in the current window.
That said, manager Mauricio Pochettino will not want to be caught short in that area, even with the quality centre-backs he can call on when everyone is fit and available. So if Foyth is signed as one very much for the future, what chance another more experienced option arriving sooner rather than later?
Only time will tell how this one plays out, but it could be a tough balance for Tottenham if they do sign Foyth, knowing he could become a first-team regular in the years to come but wanting to cover all basis now.
If Eric Dier stays and Pochettino has enough faith in youngster Cameron Carter-Vickers, he could have enough even if Foyth heads out on loan. However one wonders if there is more to come even if Spurs have been quiet so far.
