Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United are struggling to sign Frenkie de Jong, but if Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool were interested in the Barcelona midfielder, then they would have done a deal by now.
That’s the opinion of former Aston Villa striker and talkSPORT pundit Gabriel Agbonlahor.
Agbonlahor believes that if Liverpool, Manchester City and Chelsea were interested in signing De Jong from Barcelona in the summer transfer window, then they would have completed the transfer by now.
According to The Independent, Manchester United are keen on signing the Netherlands international midfielder this summer and have an agreement in place with Barcelona over a deal.
However, Barcelona and De Jong are involved in a wage dispute, and that is the main issue behind the hold-up, according to the report.

The Dutchman is reportedly willing to stay at Camp Nou if the wage issue is not resolved.
Gabriel Agbonlahor on Liverpool, Manchester United and Frenkie de Jong
Agbonlahor said about De Jong and Manchester United on talkSPORT: “If this was Liverpool or Manchester City or even Chelsea, I don’t think he would be as against it.”
In our view, there is nothing that Manchester United can do about the situation between Frenkie de Jong and Barcelona.
The Red Devils are willing to pay what the La Liga club want for the 25-year-old, and we can expect them to meet the midfielder’s wage demands as well.
The hold-up in a potential transfer is the wage dispute between Barcelona and De Jong.
It’s not a problem at United’s end.
