Leeds United could potentially come up against a familiar face in Saturday’s visit to Burnley in the Premier League.
Leeds are gearing up for their penultimate game of what’s been an incredible first season back in the top flight following a 16-year exile.
A win at Turf Moor would take Marcelo Bielsa’s side within two points of ninth-placed Arsenal as the Whites plot a top-half finish on their return to the big time.
But according to Lancashire Live, the Clarets might be missing star goalkeeper Nick Pope – and that may open the door for Bailey Peacock-Farrell to come up against the Elland Road club.
The Northern Ireland international joined Burnley from Leeds in the summer of 2019 but has only managed three Premier League appearances for Sean Dyche’s side, conceding 10 goals in the process.
Peacock-Farrell began his career at Leeds and here’s how some fans of the West Yorkshire club reacted to potentially facing him tomorrow afternoon:
This was one of a number of very gutsy sales by Leeds, who sold their best defender and top goalscorer from the previous season – Pontus Jansson and Kemar Roofe – in the same transfer window.
But it goes to show the genius of Bielsa and director of football Victor Orta because despite selling three huge players in one summer, United have only got better and to win promotion without them and then be in contention to finish above Arsenal inside two years of the trio leaving is one hell of an achievement.
