Steven Bergwijn has seemingly limited the amount of comments that he can receive on Instagram posts following Tottenham Hotspur’s midweek defeat.

Spurs lost a top-of-the-table clash to Liverpool after Roberto Firmino scored a last-minute winner to give the reigning Premier League champions a 2-1 victory at Anfield.

There was quite a bit of ill feeling from a Tottenham perspective; not only because of the dramatic manner of defeat, but Jose Mourinho claimed afterwards that his side were the better team.

Despite being dominated in almost every area, Mourinho’s side did have their chances and the Dutch winger missed a big one, hitting the post after going through one-on-one with Alisson.

And it looks like the former PSV Eindhoven winger suffered a torrent of abuse on social media after the defeat.

As a result, the 23-year-old Tottenham star, a £25 million signing last January, has put measures in place to make it harder to comment on his Instagram posts.

Here’s how fans of the North London club reacted to many of their own taking jibes at the player online:

It was Spurs’ fans on this occasion but really, a lot of Premier League clubs’ fanbases are guilty of the identical scolding of their own players on social media.

Back in September, Liverpool’s Neco Williams – who is 19 – blacked out his social media after making an error in a League Cup win over Lincoln City.
