Stan Collymore has slammed a viral photograph of Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah that’s been doing the rounds on Twitter.
There was heartbreak for the Liverpool attacker on Tuesday night.
Egypt were eliminated from the qualifying phase of the World Cup by Senegal, who beat them in the Africa Cup of Nations final only a few months ago.
And uncharacteristically, it was a shocking penalty from the Reds’ sensation that did his country no favours during the shootout.
However, a photograph has emerged on Twitter and it appears as if Salah was having lasers pointed out him by the supporters in attendance.
Here’s how former Liverpool striker Collymore reacted on Twitter:
Awful
It really is shocking that a bit of skullduggery from the stands can have an impact on whether the world gets to see one of its best footballers in Qatar later this year.
However, that is the reality.
Would the Liverpool attacker have missed even without the lasers? We’ll never know.
What we do know is that the 29-year-old is invariably ice cold from the penalty spot, so to miss – and miss so badly – was definitely a major surprise and Collymore is right, retrospective punishment is definitely valid, though unlikely.
