Speaking on the Ranks FC Podcast, Dean Jones has been discussing Newcastle United’s remaining transfer plans this summer.

The Magpies haven’t been as busy as many predicted during this transfer window, but according to Jones, business could soon pick up with a pair of attacking additions.

The journalist states that the Magpies are set on signing both Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Moussa Diaby, stating that they are actually ready to spend big on both players despite refusing to overpay since they became the richest club on the planet.

What’s been said?

Jones spoke about Calvert-Lewin and Diaby.

“Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Moussa Diaby are the two players that Newcastle want in this side for next season. They are set on that, if they could get two players in they’d go for those two right now,” Jones said.

“I’m not saying these two will land because they are really hard to land, but they’re going to go for it. If they were ever to overpay since the takeover went through they’d do it now because they have done the core of their business without doing so. These are the finishing touches and they may push the boat out a bit more.”

Worth the expenditure

Newcastle would, of course, have to spend massive money to bring Diaby and Calvert-Lewin to St James’ Park, but these two additions have the potential to be more than worth it.

Calvert-Lewin had a poor season last time around, but let’s not forget, he’s an England international striker who knows how to find the back of the net at this level.

Meanwhile, Diaby was one of the most dangerous attackers in the Bundesliga last season, and at the age of just 23, he has so much room to improve.

The Magpies could be on to a winner with these two.
