Craig Burley has spoken about how the blame could possibly land on the American players at Leeds United if Jesse Marsch’s side were to get relegated from the Premier League this season.
This comes after Leeds secured a January deal for Weston McKennie, who joins Tyler Adams, Brendan Aaronson and manager Jesse Marsch, as the fourth American in Yorkshire.
Speaking to American viewers for ESPN, former Scotland international Craig Burley praised the deal for Juventus loanee, McKennie, but also added that he will be looking forward to the reaction in the USA, if the Whites fail to survive the drop.

In truth, even before McKennie landed on Leeds’ doorstep, they should be surviving relegation with what they have on their books and what they are up against.
As things stand, they are only one point above the bottom three, but it’s pretty jam-packed down the bottom, so a few results here and there can seriously change things up.
Nonetheless, this is what Burley made of Leeds’ deal for McKennie and the reaction it would get in the US, if things were to go wrong.
“At least we know who is getting the blame if they go down,” said Burley. “Can you imagine?!
“Adams and Weston McKennie, in particular, are good players. Aaronson, I’m not saying he’s not a good player, he has been there a little while, but he’s more of a flair player.
“But the other two, they were rock solid at the World Cup and good midfielders. If Leeds go down, then it will solely be the American’s fault, if Leeds go down. That will be the mud that’s thrown at them, which, of course, isn’t the case.
“But we will get some of this lot over here (in the USA) frothing at the mouth. I don’t think they will go down.”

LEEDS SHOULD BE LOOKING UP
This is a young squad Marsch is building in Yorkshire and it should get better during these coming months.
There’s no doubt that this season they have had a number of big issues, but the Weston McKennie deal is the icing on the cake for what has been an outstanding transfer window.
From the unpredictable capture of Georginio Rutter to the hard-hitting Weston McKennie, Leeds should be looking up now.
