Speaking on The Overlap, Jamie Carragher has claimed that Liverpool could be title contenders once again if they sign a new striker.
The Reds won the Premier League at a canter in 2019/20, but it’s fair to say they’ve gone off the boil since then.
Last season, their issues mainly stemmed from their centre-back injury crisis, but Carragher believes that one issue they need to address this summer is their lack of a centre-forward.
What’s been said?
Carragher was speaking about Liverpool’s title chances and need for a new striker.
“Liverpool don’t have a striker on their books even Origi plays on the wing when he plays, and that’s where I’d like to see Liverpool invest, and if they did that, they’d be there or thereabouts,” Carragher said.
“Have they done enough? I don’t think Liverpool win the league with what they have right now, I’d like to see one more come in, but I think that will be on the fact of whether or not Liverpool can move certain players on.”

Need a striker
Carragher is right about Liverpool needing a striker, but we’re not sure that their current attacking options will affect their title hopes this term.
This is still a world-class side, and if Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez return to their best this season, the Reds should be up there this season.
Would a new centre-forward help Liverpool? Of course it would, but their lack of depth behind Roberto Firmino at the moment isn’t the be-all and end-all.
