Micah Richards told Super 6’s Podcast that Steven Gerrard ‘deserved’ a Premier League title with Liverpool after talking about his infamous slip against Chelsea in 2014.
Liverpool may have ended their title drought last season, but that Sunday afternoon against Chelsea nearly seven years ago will forever haunt Gerrard.
The Englishman has previously spoken about how he thinks about that moment ‘most days’, with Gerrard, Liverpool, Chelsea and Demba Ba writing their names into history.
Following Liverpool’s capitulation, it was Manchester City who capitalised and punished the then-Brendan Rodgers team and won the title.
Richards was still on Man City’s books, at the time, as he shared his viewpoint on how everything unfolded.
“You know if there was one person who deserved a Premier League then it was Steven Gerrard,” said Richards. “So, when he slipped I was like ‘wow’.
“When he had them in the huddle as well before, didn’t he? I think it was after another game and he said ‘this will not slip’.
“I couldn’t have wished that on anyone because he fully deserved it. Everything is about what we win, of course.
“But how he galvanised his team, when they were down and then bringing them back. Even the Champions League. Proper character. But when that happened, we just knew it was our time.”

Liverpool winning the Premier League title under Jurgen Klopp last season would have, no doubt, dampened proceedings for the former midfielder.
But perhaps that hurt of how that season ended will never go away.
However, one thing is for sure, many Liverpool fans across the land will be hoping they can lift the title with Gerrard on the touchline, one day.
