Paul Scholes has called for FA Cup semi-finals to return to Villa Park after empty seats during Manchester City’s 3-0 win over Sheffield United on Saturday at Wembley.
Whilst Manchester United and Brighton packed out their ends during their penalty shootout drama on Sunday, there were plenty of vacant seats as Riyad Mahrez’s hat-trick saw off promotion-chasing, Sheffield United.
This resulted in Paul Scholes posting on his Instagram story: ‘If there ever was an advert to get semi-finals back to Aston Villa’s Villa Park’, with an image of Mahrez taking a shot against the Blades.

SHOULD FA CUP SEMI-FINALS RETURN TO VILLA PARK?
Wembley should be a magical place for football supporters to attend, for those big games, for the big finals, not for a semi-final game.
It seems as though the FA, from a financial perspective, need to play games at the home of football, but it’s high time that the oldest club competition in the world returns to neutral grounds.
From Villa Park to Hillsborough, take your pick as to which grounds can host FA Cup semi-finals.

Not only would the atmosphere during those matches be far better than Wembley, but it will allow fans to travel across the country and in a more efficient manner, rather than just having to go to the capital.
In truth, the FA probably won’t do that, until fans stop packing out Wembley.
Whilst it didn’t happen for Manchester City v Sheffield United, the supporters were in full voice with every seat taken up for Manchester United’s win over Brighton.
