Speaking to Fulham’s Official YouTube channel, Fabio Carvalho has been discussing his move to Liverpool and the failed transfer in January.

The midfielder has finally been announced as a Reds player, but this move has been on the cards for months after a deadline day deal collapsed.

We’ve not heard anything concrete from either party about that January transfer, but we have a good idea of what the deal would have been from various reports around that time.

Carvalho has now confirmed that the plan was for the midfielder to come back to Fulham on loan until the end of the season if he’d joined the Anfield outfit on deadline day.

What’s been said?

Carvalho spoke about finishing the season with Fulham.

“That’s one thing I chose to do and the club as well, they said that they wanted me to stay as well, and I think that would’ve been the right decision if the move went through. Because it was going to be a big step, but being able to see the season out was good because of what we have achieved and how much I’ve grown, so I’m glad it happened like that,” Carvalho.

Right decision

As Carvalho says himself, staying at Fulham until the end of the season was the right decision.

It’s hard enough to move to any club in January, but heading to a Liverpool team fighting for a quadruple as a 19-year-old would have been an incredibly daunting task.

Instead, the plan was for the midfielder to see out the season at Fulham. This decision would have given the teenager more gametime and more time to prepare for a massive step up in the summer.

As we know, the deal fell through in January, but now that he’s been announced as Liverpool player, the end result has ended up being exactly the same.
