Leeds icon Eddie Gray has been speaking to the Daily Mail about a number of topics, including the departure of Marcelo Bielsa.

What’s the story?

Well, the 74-year-old believes Leeds made the right call to dismiss the Argentine, but admitted the Whites cannot thank him enough.

Gray said: “The club did the right thing. You couldn’t see the run of defeats coming to an end.”

Interestingly, Gray also shared his thoughts on the club’s plans to honour Bielsa with a permanent tribute outside of Elland Road.

The specific details of the tribute are yet to be revealed, although as documented by Leeds Live, some have said it could be a statue of a bucket.

On the topic of the tribute, Gray said: “If that was the case, I would go along with that. I don’t think any Leeds United fan – me included – will ever forget what he did for the club. His legacy will last a long time. He brought us out of the doldrums and the club can’t thank him enough.”

Clearly, the Leeds cult hero is in favour of honouring Bielsa with a permanent tribute outside Elland Road.

In our view, that’s the least he deserves.

Leeds must give Marcelo Bielsa more

In our view, a bucket isn’t enough.

Of course, it would provide supporters with the opportunity to have a nice photo mimicking Bielsa’s famous pose on the touchline, but we feel the 66-year-old deserves more.

The South American at least deserves a statue of himself sitting on the bucket, or doing his famous touchline squat.

A bucket is a nice touch, but it just doesn’t feel sufficient enough.

Bielsa dragged Leeds from the midst of the Championship, winning the title while adopting an exciting style of play, and also guided the Whites to a ninth-place finish in the Premier League.

His work in Yorkshire was special, and he deserves more than a bucket.
