Some Arsenal fans on Twitter are reacting to an incident involving Emiliano Martinez during Aston Villa’s victory over Newcastle United on Saturday.

Aston Villa, who signed the Argentina international from the Gunners last summer, picked up a first Premier League win of the season by securing a 2-0 win over Steve Bruce’s side at Villa Park.

But much of the post-match talk has centered around a controversial incident between the former Arsenal goalkeeper and Callum Wilson.

In the second half, Martinez raced off his line and smashed into the Newcastle hitman, conceding a penalty in the process.

But the decision was overturned after footage indicated an offside in the build-up, sparing the South American an almost-certain red card.

Here’s how some Arsenal fans are reacting:

Leno-esque

The incident bears a striking resemblance to the red card that Bernd Leno received for the North Londoners in a defeat by Wolverhampton Wanderers earlier this year.

Since Martinez joined Aston Villa, he has arguably been the Premier League’s best and most consistent goalkeeper.

But the 29-year-old is also capable of a rash decision and whether punished or not, Saturday proved as much.
