Bobby Zamora can see why Dele Alli might be tempted to leave Tottenham Hotspur and reunite with Mauricio Pochettino at Paris Saint-Germain.
The 25-year-old has looked a totally different player since Pochettino was fired by Tottenham in November of 2019.
It’s no secret that Alli did not exactly thrive under Jose Mourinho – who was sacked a couple of weeks ago – and even under Spurs’ caretaker manager Ryan Mason, the former MK Dons gem still looks low on confidence in comparison to his form under the Argentine in North London.
The England international was close to joining Pochettino’s PSG during the January transfer window but reliable Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano revealed this week [CBS Sport] that the former Lilywhites boss is still interested in taking Alli to the French capital.
Here’s what Zamora told Stadium Astro when quizzed about that specific rumour this week: “If Dele’s getting signals and understands that Pochettino really appreciates and loves the way he plays, that’s something great for a player.
“And if that is true [the rumour], I’m sure Dele will take the interest and listen, if you’re playing alongside Neymar week in, week out, who wouldn’t want to be apart of that?”
Nobody would really blame Alli if he did decide to leave Tottenham for PSG.
After all, he played his best football under Pochettino and no doubt the player himself will desperately want to recapture that sort of form.
As things stand, he isn’t getting into the England squad for Euro 2020, which seemed unthinkable only a few years ago.
And with the World Cup to come next year, Alli will want to be back in that squad in time for that competition, but that may not happen if he continues to struggle at Tottenham.
