The Scottish Sun reported on Sunday that Southampton are hoping to hijack Celtic’s deal for David Turnbull.

Turnbull to Celtic looked a done deal until a few days ago, when the Hoops wrote on their official Twitter account that the Motherwell midfielder and his entourage were unhappy with the personal terms on offer.

Now the 19-year-old’s future looks up in the air and if a Premier League side like Southampton really are in the mix, it could be difficult for the Scottish Premiership champions.

If Turnbull does wind up on the South Coast, should Neil Lennon ask about Stuart Armstrong?

Armstrong swapped Celtic for Southampton in a £7 million deal last summer [The Times], but his first season in the Premier League wasn’t a huge success.

The 27-year-old netted three times in 29 top-flight appearances, though only 16 were starts and he wasn’t consistently in the first XI every week when Ralph Hasenhuttl took over.

If Turnbull joins the Saints, Armstrong could suffer even more and given his standing at Celtic, why wouldn’t Lennon try and bring him back, if only on loan?
