Sean Dyche becoming Everton boss would be a bad omen for Dwight McNeil
As mentioned before, the hiring of a relegation firefighter like the 51-year-old is just what the 19th placed Toffees are in need of.
However, the potential appointment of Sean Dyche at Everton is not a good omen for Dwight McNeil, whose time at Burnley was a mixed bag due to being a part of such a conservative system.
The Englishman has always been billed as a skillful winger blessed with bags of skill but at Turf Moor, not many of those creative instincts were highlighted due to the pragmaticism of the setup.
As a result, a whole host of neutrals were over the moon for Dwight McNeil, after he secured a £20 million (BBC Sport) switch to Everton, finally getting a chance to prove his class away from the shackles of a Dyche system.
Of course, there is no denying that the 23-year-old, once described with ‘real quality’ as per Jamie Redknapp (via Lancs Live) is yet to set Goodison Park alight with his skills and tricks.
But perhaps the appointment of one of football’s biggest free thinkers in Marcelo Bielsa would have meant McNeil would have been nurtured into the fleet-footed wideman he was always tipped to become.
McNeil needs to embrace the challenge
Sure, with the arrival of Sean Dyche at Everton, Dwight McNeil cannot play his natural game.
However, it’s high time that he starts delivering, especially under a manager whose system he understands like the back of his hand.
Whether that be through becoming a diligent defender or contributing going forward as much as he can, at 23 years old, it’s go-time for any talented footballer and the same applies for McNeil.
