Newcastle United are reportedly keen on getting Alexandre Lacazette in January [Sunday Mirror, page 54, 24/10].
The Magpies have a lot of money to spend this winter after being bought out by Saudi Public Investment Fund earlier in October.
Newcastle’s new owners have a wealth of around £320 billion.
And that’s terrible news for other clubs keen on the Arsenal striker because, well, the St James’s Park club can bully them.
According to Calciomercato, the 30-year-old hitman has been offered to three Italian clubs – Inter, AC Milan and Roma.
Lacazette is out of contract at the Emirates next summer, meaning that Arsenal will sell to the highest bidder and will encourage as many clubs at the table as possible to hike up the value.
And the truth is that Newcastle can blow those three club out of the water – and virtually anybody else who may declare an interest – if they really want the France international in the North East.
They can offer the North Londoners a lot more money but, equally, they can tempt the player with far more attractive personal terms.
At the moment, the former Lyon hitman is earning around £182,000 per week.
Given that he turns 31 next year, those Italian clubs won’t be crazy about paying him that kind of money.
But for the sake of kicking off their project in the North East with the addition of a Premier League-proven goalscorer, the Newcastle owners might.
