Liverpool are losing a midfielder this summer with Gini Wijnaldum’s contract set to expire, but Jurgen Klopp may have found his replacement.

Wijnaldum has been a key player for Liverpool since his 2016 move from Newcastle United, proving to be a perfect fit for Klopp’s style.

This summer though, Wijnaldum will become a free agent and is widely expected to leave the club on a free transfer.

Given that Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain haven’t worked out at Anfield, Liverpool may need to go back into the transfer market to find a replacement for Wijnaldum.

The Times claim that not only are Liverpool interested in signing Brighton and Hove Albion talent Yves Bissouma, but Klopp is personally investigating about his character.

Michael Edwards leads the transfer business at Liverpool, mostly leaving Klopp to focus on coaching whilst still having an input on incomings.

In this case though, Klopp is doing the work himself, researching into Bissouma’s behaviour off the pitch and his overall character, contacting people around the game to find out whether he would fit at Anfield.

That Klopp is taking this task personally suggests that he is very serious about landing Bissouma, who has been shining at Brighton this season.

His ball-carrying ability is very impressive, but with Klopp looking into his personality, it sounds like the Malian is near the top of Liverpool’s transfer wish list, as he surely wouldn’t be doing this if Bissouma was only an option.

Arsenal and Manchester City are both claimed to be confident of signing Bissouma this summer, meaning at least one of them will miss out.

Klopp now seems ready to make sure both of them miss out by conducting his own research into Bissouma, and if there are no red flags, we could sell see the 24-year-old at Anfield next term.
