Arsenal will surely be in the market for a new striker come the end of the season.
The Gunners have a decision to make over Alexandre Lacazette as he enters the final year of his contract, and Eddie Nketiah’s future is unclear too.
One player Arsenal have been tracking is Odsonne Edouard, with the Celtic man believed to be a top target.
The Telegraph reported in April that Arsenal are hoping to convince Edouard to join in order to play with Kieran Tierney once again – but it looks they’re missing out.
TEAMtalk now claim that Leicester City believe they’re going to sign Edouard, reuniting him with his former Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers.
If true, this is a very early blow to Edu’s summer transfer plans, as a seemingly attainable striker may be heading to a Premier League rival instead.
Celtic’s dismal season means Edouard is angling for a move away from Parkhead, and there was a time where Arsenal could blow Leicester out of the water for anybody they wanted.
Times have changed though; Leicester are a much better side than Arsenal right now, and will have European football next season – something Arsenal can’t offer.
Arsenal subsequently have to change their approach in the transfer market, looking below the huge names and maybe focusing more on talented youngsters who can become stars at the Emirates – just like Tierney has following his move from Celtic.
Edouard fit the bill; he’s tall, strong, skilful, quick, can score all types of goals and only turned 23 in January, meaning there should be plenty of development to come.
Edouard’s record with Celtic has been outstanding; 82 goals and 37 assists in 166 games for the club, and rekindling that relationship with Tierney could have made Arsenal very dangerous.
Instead, Edouard looks to be heading to Leicester, and Edu has possibly suffered a transfer blow before the season has even finished.
