Steven Gerrard reportedly wants Rangers’ Ryan Kent to join him at Aston Villa – and Leeds United will be gutted if it materialises.

The 41-year-old manager quit Rangers last week to become Dean Smith’s successor at Villa Park.

And according to The Metro, Gerrard wants to sign reported Leeds target Kent in January.

And should it actually happen – and it genuinely might – then Marcelo Bielsa will be heartbroken.

Why?

Well, that’s because the Elland Road club have been linked long before Gerrard ever found himself at Aston Villa.

According to The Scottish Sun, the then-Rangers boss knocked back two bids by Leeds for Kent during the summer of 2020.

A year later, Bielsa wanted him again but focused on Daniel James after failing to tempt the Ibrox outfit.

This is clearly a player who the Argentine manager likes in a big way.

If he joins any other Premier League club, it would frustrate Bielsa – but the fact that he could be off to Aston Villa just makes it all the worse, given Leeds’ history with them in recent years.

Then again, money talks.

The truth is, Kent would be in West Yorkshire right now had United bid enough to prise him from Rangers.

And if the former Liverpool product rips up the Premier League under Gerrard at Villa, it’ll haunt Bielsa in a football sense.
