This is very much Reiss Nelson’s make or break season with regards to his Arsenal career.
And it’s made all the tougher by the fact that he isn’t even at the club at the moment.
Nelson was once considered one of Arsenal’s hottest properties but the future is looking grim for him in North London.
And if one rumour is true, the 21-year-old might just be finally done at the Emirates Stadium.
According to The Daily Star, Arsenal are interested in signing Raheem Sterling next summer.
Potentially finished
And considering both are left-sided attackers, Mikel Arteta and Edu wouldn’t be thinking about Sterling if they had any confidence left in Nelson coming good.
He was loaned to Feyenoord a few months ago and with his contract at Arsenal expiring in 2023, the Gunners might be forced to sell next summer to avoid losing him on a free 12 months later.
That’s why the next nine months or so are make or break for the Hale End graduate – but it’s possible that what he does in the Netherlands is immaterial in any case.
Let’s face it, Sterling is a million miles ahead of him and if Arteta genuinely wants him – and he might, considering the two worked together at Manchester City – then it’s so ominous for Nelson.
With Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli already considered left-wing options by Arteta, there’s just no room for Nelson if the Sterling plan comes off.
