Speculation is rife that Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain could potentially swap Liverpool for a Premier League rival.
Well, Brighton wouldn’t historically have been considered a rival of Jurgen Klopp’s side.
Then again, Liverpool have recently lost 3-0 away to the Seagulls, who are also two points and three places ahead of the Reds in the Premier League table.
So yeah, ‘rival’ is an apt description in this context.
According to The Daily Mail today, the Liverpool midfielder is wanted by Albion and Oxlade-Chamberlain could seriously leave the club.
He is out of contract next summer anyway, but he could call time now and get six months of his career back on track.
Everybody thinks the 29-year-old has been hampered by injury throughout his career at Liverpool.
And while it’s true that the former Arsenal winger – a £40 million signing in 2017 [Guardian] – has missed a lot of football over the past five years, he’s been consistently fit since 2021 or so.
For whatever reason, Klopp just hasn’t been picking him.
Oxlade-Chamberlain is 29 now and in the prime of his career, a career that has already seen more injuries than most – including his Arsenal time, obviously.
But now that he’s fit and available, he still isn’t going to be starting regularly at Liverpool.
He may, however, under Roberto de Zebri at Brighton and for the sake of his career, he needs to leave before next week’s transfer deadline.
