It goes without saying that Tottenham Hotspur chairman Daniel Levy is very frugal in the transfer market, whether it’s buying or selling.

Levy is known for trying to extract the maximum possible value whilst saving Tottenham as much money as possible in doing so.

And if one rumour is true, Spurs could save themselves an abolute fortune by switching transfer targets.

Tottenham have been linked with a move for Burnley goalkeeper Nick Pope for much of the calendar year so far.

Thing is, the Clarets would want £50 million for the England international [Lancashire Live].

Levy is now reportedly interested in West Brom goalkeeper Sam Johnstone who, according to ESPN, could leave the Baggies for as little as £10 million.

You don’t need to be a genius to figure out that that’s a staggering £40 million in the difference and it’ll surely appeal to the Lilywhites supremo.

That being said, Pope is a better goalkeeper than Johnstone and if Tottenham are trying to sign a long-term replacement for Hugo Lloris, the 28-year-old is the better option, even if he costs a lot more.

If Spurs and Levy go for Johnstone, it’ll be as a number two option because let’s face it, as talented as the former Manchester United stopper is, he isn’t a stronger keeper than Lloris, who has won a World Cup.

It goes without saying that Johnstone is much cheaper – again, cheaper by £40 million – but Pope is better and it puts Levy in a bit of a bind.
