According to 90Min, Arsenal are eyeing up a move for Raheem Sterling this summer, and if he arrives at Arsenal, we have to imagine that Mikel Arteta isn’t far off having his dream left side at the Emirates.
Indeed, a left flank partnership of Oleksandr Zinchenko and Raheem Sterling, both of whom honed their craft under Pep Guardiola at Manchester City, would be incredible for Arteta’s Arsenal.
Zinchenko has been fantastic for the north London club this season, with the Ukrainian midfielder with his versatility and ability to interchange between positions during a game. Meanwhile, Sterling has been linked with a move away from Chelsea, with 90min reporting that Arsenal are one of the clubs interested in signing the England winger.
Arteta , after a lot of work, is now succeeding at building a Pep-esque side at Arsenal, and Zinchenko and Sterling could be perfect additions to his team. Sterling understands Guardiola’s style of play better than most, having worked under the Catalan coach for several years at City. While he also already has a relationship with Zinchenko from their time together at the Etihad.

Arteta’s style is, of course, very reminiscent of Guardiola’s, and having these two disciples of Pep down the left flank will only allow the Spaniard’s philosophy to be realised further.
Gabriel Martinelli has been fantastic for Arsenal this season, but Sterling could offer more experience and know-how in terms of tactics and footballing IQ.
Of course, signing Sterling would not be easy for Arsenal. The 28-year-old has only just joined Chelsea, and while the arrival of Mykhaylo Mudryk has complicated things for him, he won’t want to leave Stamford Bridge without a fight.
Nevertheless, if Arsenal can pull off the signing of Sterling, and pair him with Zinchenko on the left flank, Arteta would have arguably one of the best left side pairings he could dream of having in terms of players he knows, trusts and understands.
