This Luis Diaz injury comes at a horrible time for Liverpool.

According to Colombian journalist Pipe Sierra, the Reds attacker could be missing until March.

With Diogo Jota also ruled out until February last week [The Athletic], as covered by HITC Sport, well suffice to say Liverpool are short on wide options.

The good news is, Jurgen Klopp and Fenway Sports Group might be about to get a lot more serious about Cody Gakpo.

Obviously if it’s true, this Luis Diaz injury is definitely bad news but it could have a major silver lining.

With Diaz and Jota both absent until well into 2023, Liverpool have a lot more incentive now to get real about Gakpo.

The Netherlands international had a brilliant World Cup campaign which ended via a penalty shootout defeat by Argentina.

Speaking to CaughtOffside earlier in December, Fabrizio Romano predicted that Liverpool would step up their efforts to bring the all-action PSV Eindhoven winger to Anfield.

And that was before the double blow for Jota and Diaz.

With Gakpo rated at around £70 million [Voetbal], he would cost the Merseysiders quite a large sum of money.

But wth Liverpool desperately needing a winger, and the groundwork already being laid for Gakpo, don’t be surprised if this transfer becomes a lot more realistic over the coming weeks.
