Well, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain might not be leaving Liverpool anymore, amid speculation about a transfer to Manchester United.

According to The Times, Liverpool’s imminent deal for Calvin Ramsay will spell the end of their transfer business this summer.

The Reds have snapped up Fabio Carvalho and Darwin Nunez – for a club-record £85 million, pipping Manchester United to his signature – but once Ramsay is done, Jurgen Klopp will reportedly shut up shop.

And this might suggest that Oxlade-Chamberlain has a lifeline at Anfield.

Toward the end of last season, the 28-year-old, who cost £40 million in 2017, couldn’t even make Klopp’s squad on a regular basis in what was a damning indictment of his decline under the German manager.

According to talkSPORT, Manchester United are interested in a £10 million deal but if that report from Paul Joyce is accurate, the former Arsenal winger should be sticking around on Merseyside.

That’s because Liverpool clearly have no intention of signing any more midfielders this summer.

One more body coming in would’ve been the coffin nail for Oxlade-Chamberlain’s Reds career.

But now, he has been thrown a major lifeline.

His talent has never been in question, but his consistency has and if the England international can rediscover his best form, then he’s a massive player for Klopp going forward.

With Naby Keita being famously injury prone and Thiago and Jordan Henderson both the wrong side of 30, Oxlade-Chamberlain could still get minutes at Liverpool if he improves.

It was a piece of transfer speculation that always looked rather bizarre, but if the Merseysiders really are shutting up shop then it has zero legs whatsoever.
