Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenburg has reported that Liverpool are now eyeing Sven Mislintat as their new Sporting Director as Julian Ward prepares to depart.
Mislintat to Liverpool does make a lot of sense. The German worked closely with Jurgen Klopp during their time together at Borussia Dortmund and he has Premier League experience from his time at Arsenal.
Of course, if Mislintat does head to Anfield he’ll bring his own knowledge, expertise and transfer targets, and we have to imagine that he’ll have a look at his current employers, VFB Stuttgart, for at least one signing.
In our view, if Mislintat came to Liverpool, it surely wouldn’t be long before the Sporting Director looked towards Borna Sosa as a potential recruit.
Indeed, Stuttgart’s current left-back looks like he would be a great fit for Liverpool.
The Croatian, much like Andy Robertson and Trent Alexander-Arnold, is a player who absolutely loves to get forward. He’s grabbed 17 league assists over the last two seasons, and he’s on track to get double-figures this term, grabbing five assists in 12 games so far this term.
Being an attacking threat is vital for any Jurgen Klopp full-back, while Sosa is also mightily athletic, which will help him settle into Klopp’s high-intensity style of play.
Factor in that Kostas Tsimikas has recently been linked with a move away from Liverpool – with some even touting him as a potential bargaining chip in a swap deal for a new midfielder, and you can see why this Sosa link would make so much sense.
Mislintat often goes back to players he trusts – he signed Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang – two of his Dortmund stars, for Arsenal, while Kostas Mavropanos headed from north London to Germany to join him at Stuttgart.
Stuttgart to Liverpool is a big step up, but if there’s any player ready to make that step, it’s Sosa.
