It looks like Tottenham Hotspur are set to reward Son Heung-min for his form.
The South Korea international has been one of Spurs’ best and most consistent performers in recent years but he is taking it to a new extreme this season under Jose Mourinho.
So far, Son, who joined from Bayer Leverkusen in 2015, has 10 goals and five assists from 13 games across all competitions.
The 27-year-old is on course to have his best-ever season in a Tottenham shirt.
And according to Fabrizio Romano, who has reported on The Guardian, the North Londoners are set to open talks with Son about extending his contract.
Son, whose current deal expires in 2023, will also get a huge pay hike by becoming a £200,000-a-week player, the Italian journalist adds.
He is now being represented by the same company who looks after Mourinho’s interests, which bodes well as far as negotiations go.
This, when it happens, is a brilliant decision by Tottenham.
Son is already a huge asset for the Lilywhites but his form could and probably will improve when his future is clarified.
Romano also claimed in the report that some clubs were keen on signing the player during the summer, which Son himself will know about.
But if and when Spurs tie him down, it’ll draw a line under that uncertainty and Son could, in theory, flourish even more.
