The Glasgow Rangers defender may struggle to get back into the starting line-up this season.
Rangers manager Pedro Caixinha got off to the perfect start when he oversaw a 4-0 victory against Hamilton Academical prior to the international break, with his defensive options limited due to the suspension of centre-back Rob Kiernan.
In his place, the new Gers boss picked Danny Wilson and he looked solid alongside veteran Clint Hill.
Given that result, it would be a surprise if Caixinha changed his starting line-up any more than he has to, meaning the much-maligned Kiernan could face a spell on the bench with games running out this season.
And when you consider the 26-year-old’s shaky performances earlier in the campaign, relegation to the substitutes’ bench could be the beginning of the end for Kiernan at Ibrox.
Caixinha will already be thinking about how and where to strengthen the squad he has inherited and central defence will surely be high on his list.
Wilson has not exactly been impressive himself, but given the clean sheet Rangers managed last time out he may get a run to prove his worth alongside the evergreen Hill.
That could leave Kiernan struggling for game time and knowing that, with the majority of Rangers fans against him, it may be tough to convince his manager he can be an effective part of Caixinha’s Ibrox revolution.
