Tottenham are reportedly set to hand Jamie Donley a new contract with the talented teenager shining in the club’s Under-21 side and in senior training – but placing faith in Donley surely suggests that Troy Parrott‘s future is in doubt.
Donley, 18, is enjoying an excellent season in the U-18, European U-19 side and the U-21’s. He has played 27 games in league and cup, having a hand in 11 goals. That is despite playing up top, as a number 10 or in the middle of the park.
The forward is yet to get his chance at senior level. But he has often been seen training with the first team and now, Alasdair Gold has reported he will be given a new deal. He says Donley is to sign a contract until the summer of 2026.
The deal, as per Football London, will have the option of a further 12 months. So, it is clear Spurs are going to place their faith in Donley – and if he is to make it at Spurs, then a pathway is key. Donley needs a chance to make his debut.
That faith has been instilled in the past in the likes of Dane Scarlett who at 18, still has a chance of making it at Spurs. But for Parrott, who at 21 is struggling for form at Preston, a new deal for Donley is maybe a sign for the Irishman.

Tottenham set to hand Donley a new contract, Parrott future in doubt
Donley deserves a new deal but if he is to sign new terms, then he will be shown the way in which he can break into Tottenham’s first team. He would not be signing if he felt there was no chance of making his senior debut at Spurs.
Indeed, that means Spurs may have to remove a couple of players in his way. As stated, Scarlett is still young enough to make the grade. A new loan next season may occur. Parrott though, has failed to turn potential into proven quality.
Parrott has gone on loan four times. No goals in 14 at Millwall, just 10 in League One with MK Dons, two in 18 at Ipswich and three in 25 for Preston. Not good enough. A new deal for Donley is a sign that Spurs will sell Parrott.
