Could recent Rangers loanee Jason Cummings still end up at Ibrox?
Rangers signed Jason Cummings on loan for the second half of last season and the striker’s future remains unclear.
Cummings has gone back to Nottingham Forest, with Rangers yet to make any sort of push to sign him on a permanent basis.
If they wait, there remains a possibility they could secure Cummings’ services on loan for the season.
Cummings is not part of Forest’s immediate plans, and he is falling well down the pecking order.
Forest have signed Algerian forward Hillal Soudani, to add to competition from Ben Brereton, and Daryl Murphy.
Aitor Karanka is still keen to add another striker, with the Nottingham Post reporting they are keen on Patrick Bamford.
Cummings would have a fight simply to make the bench each week, and would jump at the chance to leave on loan again if it was offered.
He scored six goals for Rangers in 18 appearances in total, often used as a substitute.
The agreement struck when Rangers signed Cummings on loan was that if they wanted to make the move permanent, they would have to pay up £1 million, the Daily Record reported.
If Rangers stay patient, and leave Cummings and Forest to wait it out until late in the transfer window, they might just be able to nab him on loan for the season again.
It is a gamble to wait, but if Gerrard’s side can stay patient, they could save a £1 million fee, for this season at least.
