Rangers have been told they cannot lure Sean Goss to Ibrox on a permanent basis.

Rangers have a whole host of central midfielders available to them under Graeme Murty, especially after the January signings of Sean Goss and Greg Docherty. But Ian Holloway’s comments will come as a golden chance for another star.

The QPR manager has blasted Ibrox boss Murty as well as stating that the Scottish giants will not be able to sign Goss on a permanent basis, as the former Manchester United star continues to shine north of the border.

Goss scored his second Rangers goal with an excellently-placed free-kick in the 4-1 win over St. Johnstone on Tuesday night at McDiarmid Park, and it has led to Murty stating the left-footed midfielder is a permanent target for the club.

Goss remains on loan at Ibrox, but a permanent deal now looks to be completely out of the question after Holloway blasted Murty for his comments and delivered a hands-off warning to the Gers in an interview with the Daily Record.

With Goss likely to return to QPR in the summer then, Murty will have to fill the hole left by Goss – if indeed he remains in the Ibrox dugout beyond this season.

The former Reading defender has plenty of options in the middle of the park, including crocked trio Ross McCrorie, Ryan Jack and Graham Dorrans as well as Jordan Rossiter, Niko Kranjcar and Jason Holt.

But Jamie Barjonas should view Holloway’s comments as his chance to really make a mark on the Rangers squad, as the youngster continues to be in and out of the side.

The 19-year-old was handed a new deal earlier in the season but has failed to have a proper impact under Murty, playing in only 158 minutes of Scottish Premiership action. Injuries have hampered his progress.

Offering similar technical ability to that of Goss and Docherty, Rangers starting midfielders right now, Barjonas possesses all the tools to thrive under Murty. If Rangers fail to sign Goss, Barjonas should do all he can to fill the void.
