Newcastle United are reportedly interested in hiring Luis Campos.

The new mega-rich Magpies are in the market for a director of football to revamp the playing staff in the North East.

And former Lille and Monaco director Campos, who delivered Ligue 1 titles at both clubs, is being considered by Newcastle, according to Sky Sports.

If he arrives at St James’s Park, don’t be surprised if speculation about a move for Manchester City’s Bernardo Silva follows.

Simply put, it’s a transfer that sort of makes sense.

Why does it make sense?

Firstly, Campos has already signed the Portugal international once before, bringing him to Monaco back in 2014 from Benfica.

Three years later, he secured a £70 million move to Pep Guardiola’s side.

And despite winning three Premier League titles at Eastlands, Calciomercato reported just this week that Guardiola could loan out the player amid talk of a move to Juventus.

He is a big player for Pep but, for whatever reason, one that the Spanish coach is willing to part ways with in some capacity.

And this is where Newcastle could strike because not only might Silva be interested in a reunion with Campos, but St James’s Park could and probably will be the place to be over the coming years.

With a fortune of £320 billion, there’s no doubt Saudi Public Investment Fund will build one heck of a project in the North East and one that most players would struggle to turn down.

If Newcastle do get Campos, links to his former players is inevitable.

And with one of his best signings reportedly available at City, this could get quite a bit of traction between now and January.
