If rumours are believed, Arsenal might struggle to afford a permanent move for Martin Odegaard – and it may potentially benefit their Premier League rivals Arsenal.
The Daily Star reported in March that Liverpool wanted to sign the Real Madrid loanee this summer after his brilliant start to life in North London.
Eurosport have previously reported that Arsenal want to keep the £40 million-rated playmaker in North London beyond the end of his loan agreement.
But Christian Falk of BILD reported this past weekend that the Emirates Stadium club might not be able to fund the move and that, if true, may possibly open the door for Liverpool.
The 22-year-old seems to have very little future at the Santiago Bernabeu – under Zinedine Zidane, anyway – but it’s been reported that Odegaard is happy to stay with Mikel Arteta in London [Eurosport].
But if Real have no plan for him and Arsenal can’t afford him, there’s an opportunity for other interested parties to stake a claim – and when a club of Liverpool’s stature throws its hand into the ring, the player himself will certainly take notice.
Jurgen Klopp has a much grander reputation than Arteta when it comes to developing and improving young players and if the Spanish coach is out of the running for financial reasons, it’s a boost for the Anfield club.
