West Bromwich Albion defender Kieran Gibbs has been linked with a summer move to Newcastle United, who are on the verge of securing their Premier League status for next season.

What does the medium to long term future hold for Newcastle United? Well, a lot could depend on what does or does not happen in the summer.
As reported by the Chronicle, the much-liked Rafa Benitez is still in talks with the club about a new deal with his current contract due to expire in two months time.
Added with that, TeamTalk recently claimed that the Magpies want to sign three players from Championship side Wes Brom, including current loanee Salomon Rondon, midfielder Jake Livermore and defender Kieran Gibbs.
If they sign 29-year-old Gibbs then it would be a smart move by the club because given what he has achieved in his career he is more than capable of playing for a club outside of the Premier League’s top-six.
The former England international has fallen some way since his days of winning three FA Cups with his boyhood club Arsenal, but he was a regular for the North London club during those days, not forgetting that he was also playing Champions League football back then.
In terms of Gibbs’ future, a lot could depend on what happens to West Brom as they are currently sitting in the play-off places and in with a chance of earning promotion.

If that doesn’t occur then Newcastle should pounce on signing him because financially he won’t be too costly, he’ll be an upgrade on what is currently at the club and he would add some much-needed experience to the backline.
Over the course of this season, Gibbs has arguably been one of West Brom’s best players providing a great balance, both in attack and defence on the left-hand side.
Given the fact that he has made 170 Premier League appearances [transfermarkt], Gibbs won’t feel pressured in playing in front of what can be at times a tough St James’ Park crowd.
