Newcastle United need midfield reinforcements and the Chelsea youngster is the ideal option.

According to a recent report from the Daily Mail, Brighton and Hove Albion are interested in signing Chelsea midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek on loan next season, but their fellow promoted club Newcastle United would be wise to get in quickly.

After all, the Magpies were linked (via the Shields Gazette) with a move for the youngster in the January transfer window, and now they are back among the big boys it would be a move that suits all parties.

Most importantly, Loftus-Cheek would offer additional quality in the centre of the park; an area where Newcastle have struggled at times with Jack Colback under-performing for much of the campaign.

If the 27-year-old struggles to make his mark against Championship opponents, he could be in for a rude awakening on his return to the top flight.

Of all Newcastle’s central midfielders, Colback is the least effective, and if Loftus-Cheek arrived and played to his full potential he could quickly push the former Sunderland man down the pecking order at St. James’ Park.

The Chelsea youngster is regarded as one of the brightest prospects in their youth system and he has not looked out of place when he has played for the Blues’ senior side.

Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez has a lot of thinking to do ahead of the new campaign, and signing the talented 21-year-old – albeit temporarily – could be a smart way to kick things off.
