Ahmed Musa to Hull loan looks unlikely after Leonid Slutsky sacking but should Newcastle now consider a move for the Leicester attacker?
Ahmed Musa of Leicester City holds off a challenge from Matthew Lund of Burton Albion during a Pre-Season Friendly match.
Musa turned down a temporary move to the Tigers in the summer because of not wanting to drop down to the Championship, but was tempted by a reunion with manager Leonid Slutsky.
Leonid Slutsky looks on prior to the Sky Bet Championship match between Millwall and Hull City.
The Nigeria international played under Slutsky at CSKA Moscow, but since the sacking of the Russian on Sunday (December 3) the chance of him moving to the KCOM Stadium now appears to be all but over.
That does not mean that Musa, who has played just once senior match all season, has now become a part of boss Claude Puel’s first team plans though and an exit from the Foxes in the New Year surely still remains a distinct possibility.
Newcastle United manager Rafael Benitez waves from the touchline during the English Premier League football match against Chelsea.
Which is why Newcastle United should perhaps take a closer look, with the Mirror reporting a new striker is one of four new positions Rafa Benitez wants to recruit in January, but funds at St James’ Park remain a sticking point.
It means loanees are a more likely proposition for Benitez and with Musa being able to play as a number nine or out wide, the 25-year-old could offer the Magpies chief more versatility in attack but for minimal financial outlay.
